Adam’s Venture: Origins PS4 Review Adam’s Venture: Origins for PS4 is a casual adventure puzzle game developed by Vertigo Games and published by SOEDESCO. The game, set in the roaring 1920s, follows the adventures of the protagonist Adam Venture as he seeks the secrets of Eden and Solomon’s Temple. In the company of his partner, Evelyn, Adam ventures to uncover ancient ruins while opposing the Clairvaux abhorred by the player. Gameplay and Mechanics In Adam’s Venture: Origins, the primary game mechanics are exploration and puzzle solving, which account for the bulk of the gameplay. Most of the puzzles are conventional, from finding missing items to mathematical problems and recognizing patterns. Although the puzzles are easy and entertaining, even the average player may find them straightforward. In addition, the controls in platforming areas can appear static and awkward at times – falling off a stage typically causes long load times, making it bothersome to finish these areas. Similarly, using a grappling hook to move or find a picture adds little to the gameplay since much of these actions are hand-held without the control or movement that it might have had. Visuals and Sound During Adam’s Venture: Origins, bright levels and colors appear in many of the game’s settings. Nevertheless, it seems the game is striving to be humorous. Nevertheless, the game has a few huge drawbacks, such as the pop-in graphics and characters that are not always smooth. Nevertheless, despite this, the game’s environments – tombs, ancient buildings, and roaring 20’s France – are pretty and graceful created due to design and lighting.

Lessously, the sound design is not one of them. The voice work has received a lot of criticism for being flat and uninspired, especially in the case Adam Venture's leading man who is rather grating with his incredibly over exaggerated chauvinistic attitude. Other voice acting, from the supporting cast, is as bad or worse than the first game - and just like many daylight scenes in Days of Thunder's engine pool area, areas outside at night become blue/gray washed quagmire overlaying texture-backed blackscape.

Story and Characters

Adam's Venture: Origins tells a simple story, it is your classic adventuring tale of myth, lore and lost treasure. While his overreaching story is ambitious, other threads of the narrative fall victims to poor writing and character development. Adam's dialogue as well as to the other characters are way too shallow which makes any kind of plot advancing scene appear like I should not bother listening.

The game, which offers a bit of religious undertone and history as its plotline is still an interesting thing to read about, but in the end very poorly executed. Unfortunately, though the story does kind of go in some directions that are not entirely predictable (its fell apart to many times for me because I just felt it lackluster); they were ultimately devoid any character arcs or meaningful progression so the denouement was wholly lacking.

Replay Ability and Final Thoughts

Adam's Venture Origins is a pretty short game, with an average play time of around 4-5 hours. Making it easy to finish in the first play-through but difficult for a second run, this brevity coupled with shallow puzzles when compared to other games of its genre and zero combat certainly makes Magnetic: Cage Closed an interesting game. Lastly, with all the bonus objectives and challenges outlined in a completionist-like checklist now easily accessible from the start, trophy/ achievement fiends might find some lasting value going back through Dishonored for different play styles or under various restrictions-but I imagine just one bloody jaunt through Karnaca for everyone else will generally suffice.

At the end of the day, Adam's Venture: Origins delivers striking graphics with simple to intermediate puzzles and an intriguing historical narrative. Unfortunately, its potential is squandered by technical problems and bad voice acting with a subpar story to boot. While it will certainly appeal to those into the more relaxed style of light puzzle adventure, or aimed at an audience much younger than me, fans looking for a high degree of polish and narrative may find this falls short compared with other titles in the genre.

Those who found themselves in an odd middle ground for games like Uncharted or Tomb Raider with a focus on swashbuckling but open to puzzle solving, Adam's Venture: Origins may be worth looking into even if it is without its blemishes.
