Developed by Ghost Games, the new Need for Speed is being called a reboot for a very good reason: it goes back to the series' roots, putting you in scenes reminiscent of those featured in classic titles like Underground. For more on that, read my hands-on impressions from E3 2015. Released November 3* ($60; available on PS4, Xbox One and PC) Infamous for high-octane thrills, a broad range of car mods and customization options, and its deep open-world setting,"Need for Speed"makes an exciting adrenaline-fueled getaway to racing fans.

Story and Setting

Need for Speed is set in the fictional city of Ventura Bay, a sprawling location modeled after Los Angeles, with a narrative that has players racking up street cred as they ascend the ranks of the underground racing scene. This consists in players meeting and competing against racing icons, which are five types of car culture crushing vehicles to be found in Need for Speed; speed, style, build, crew & outlaw. Live-action cutscenes help tell the story, merging real actors with game graphics for a cinematic presentation.

Gameplay Mechanics

Open-World Exploration:

Ventura Bay is a vast city built with five unique districts to provide you ample of space for racing from the off, whether through downtown streets or up into the winding hills. Players roam the open-world setting, where they can do events and discover collectables.

With most of the action taking place at night, this adds to the underground racing feel that pervades the entirety of the game - and it does so through a day-night cycle that is both gorgeous and seamless.

Varied Racing Events:

A variety of racing events is available in Need for Speed, including missions that feature fast-paced street races, time trials, drifting and police pursuits. Every event type spotlights specific areas of driving skill, adding to variety and replayability.

The open world is also littered with AI or human players that can instantly join the player in a spontaneous race, giving the racing sandbox some proper dynamic competitiveness.

Car Customization:

The game offers a wide array of customization options, which enables the players to customize the performance and looks of their cars. Thisneables players to upgrade engines, suspension, tires and many other aspects of their vehicle.

Players can customize the look and feel of their cars through body kits, paint jobs, decals and rims, allowing them to personalize their vehicle based on how they want it to look like.

Features and Enhancements

Realistic Visuals and Sound:

The game features beautiful and atmospheric graphics which are powered by the Frostbite engine, snazzy looking cars with realistic lighting and atmospheric effects that make Ventura Bay come to life. It also makes races feel faster and more immersive due to the increase in visual fidelity.

Combining up beat soundtracks that fit the high-speed chases with a roaring sound design of engines, tires swirling and the relentless progress of one street race after the other.

Online Connectivity:

Need for Speed will feature online connectivity as it joins an always-online world where players can compete against one another and even interact with each other. It really shines in the social component of the game, though, where you can compete with or work together to challenge your friends and others on all those levels and leaderboards.

Crews will be able to engage in co-op competition and crew vs. crew action, all designed with the intention to push virtual performance cars at one another over timespace -- even when you're not off winning gymkhanas, beating rivalsChampionnat decion races and hunting online smurfs for easy scalps.

Dynamic Weather and Traffic:

The game has dynamic weather and a day-night cycle which impact both driving conditions and visibility. These all provide more diversity around the racing play, forcing players to drive differently in each environment.

Traffic is completely different too, with regular civilian cars populating the road in races and pursuits.realpath street racing crossover.

Interesting Feature

The biggest standout is likely how "Need for Speed" pairs live-action cutscenes with in-game graphics to move the story forward in a way that's more seamless, and impressively immersive. The mix of real actors with game visuals enriches the storytelling and gives an interesting new way to navigate through the story.

Need for Speed PS4 Review: A visceral experience based-on underground car culture. So what sets The Crew apart from the rest of the pack for fans of arcade/semi-realistic racing games is that it's absolutely a worthwhile game to play. It has its massive open world, tons of customization and high octane, balls-to-the-wall racing action. In "Need for Speed", you'll take to the streets of Ventura Bay, build your dream car and dominate the underground racing scene.
