Rad Rodgers
Rad Rodgers is a bright, colorful throwback to classic platformers with simple gameplay but complex (and mostly optional) challenges. Of all the more modern Metroidvanias, this game feels most in lockstep with the early games that inspired it -- if you have a fondness for things like Shovel Knight or Yooka-Laylee, this is for you.
Players take control of the protagonist and self-proclaimed video game expert Rad and his trusty console play pal turned homocidal sidekick Dusty as they depart their living room through the TV and traverse into a colorful, chaotic land filled with unique personalities of retro games past. There is no questioning that the humour and light-hearted nature of the game manage to give anyone who grew up on games of the ‘90s a thrilling sense of nostalgia.
The gameplay, it combines platforming and action perfectly and the controls are tight and the levels are challenging, yet fair. You will journey through gorgeous locations, destroy hordes of enemies, find secrets and do puzzles. Dusty features its own skills such as powerful strikes and clever comments which reflect the game play.
Rad Rodgers visually looks good with colorful detailed graphics and smooth animations. The rug that can be bought at the store in crawl from hell has an amazing looking art style and feels like a retro aesthetic with a fresh coat of paint. Full of driving beats and energetic tunes to keep your heart pounding as you jump, shoot, and explore.
One of the great features has been the environment which you play. Between platforming, there are mini-games and puzzles to solve, which flow well with the platform challenges. Rad and Dusty shared witty dialogue and humorous interactions, and it was had not to be charmed by it all.
