Story and Characters

FlatOut 4: Total Insanity concludes the story of Max Damage, long-time series character for fans of this racing franchise. While the story isn't very important, it does provide context to why all these races are destroying everything. The campaign is fleshed out with a number of events and challenges but they're peripheral to the gameplay rather than the story.

Pros and Cons

FlatOut 4: Total Insanity fulfills the promise of crazy racing, featuring some ridiculous modes that span from normal races to time trials and crowd-arena events. Even the weighty responsiveness of the vehicles and satisfying crash physics that were a hallmark of earlier games in this series are still present. Opt to take your skills online, and the tension is ramped up with a whole new range of challenges for those racers that enjoy racing against other people.

As good as the game may be, there are a few bugs and some frame rate problems here that might bring down an otherwise quality title. The AI is on the aggressive side sometimes though, especially in some of the early events which can be frustrating. These quibbles aside, Total Insanity still comes out swinging - mostly for the positive aspect of that phrase.
