You and me Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul PS4 VR review: A horrifying right of passage in VR The Lost Soul brings the Paranormal Activity series into the realm of room scale VR and it's taken my right of passage away. If you like horror games such as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard or Outlast then this game will keep you in suspense.

It takes place in a spooky, eerily quiet house, using VR to scare the bejeezus out of you with its terrible ambiance. Each and every creak, murmur, and shadow is a horrifying revelation, in so far that the overall effect is solidly disturbing. The sound design of the game is spectacular, with 3d audio being used to great effect to make you feel even more under threat and paranoid.

It is designed as an exploration/survival game that will force you to find out the dark and horrifying events of the house that have taken place. With nothing but a flashlight at your side, solve puzzles and search for clues to help you unlock the darkness that lingers in your mind, if... you learn to avoid the things that are lurking in the shadows. The game is a simple one and allows you to enjoy the horror with little to no complications with controls.

In terms of visuals, Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul impresses with its intricate environments and realistic lighting effects. The house the film is set in is full of eerily atmospheric touches which constantly has you sitting on the edge of your seat. The VR version magnifies it tenfold, so that every hallway, room, and secrets-stepping corner is actually scary.

The backstory of the house and of many of its former inhabitants is horrific, and while this aspect of the film is only slowly revealed, it is incredibly engaging. As you venture further, the suspense increases and the scares start coming at just the right time, making it feel like there's always something just waiting to pop out at you. Continued exploration that divides play up with terror creates this constant state of not knowing what will come next, and the game does a very good job of equilibrium.

Unfortunately for PS4 owners, "Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul" is currently about as good as it gets for fans of quality horror and VR gaming. It's a game that all horror fans need to play, aimed to scare the crap out of you with in the most creepy way imaginable. Strap on your VR headset and flashlight and prepare to be scared... literally to death in this terrifying horror experience!
